Corp-Con 2025: NALSAR and ICSI Host National Conference on ESG and IBC in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The National Conference Corp-Con 2025, jointly organized by NALSAR University and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), brought together legal, academic, and corporate experts to deliberate on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles and the evolving framework of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).

The inaugural session of Corp-Con 2025 was held at the SAARC Law Hall, chaired by Prof Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR.

Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General and CEO of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), attended as Chief Guest and addressed the gathering on integrating ESG into corporate law, stakeholder theory, and the forthcoming IBC 3.0 reforms. He emphasized the importance of building trust and fostering collective responsibility among stakeholders.

The session commenced with a ceremonial lamp-lighting, the welcoming of dignitaries, and the rendition of the ICSI motto song Satyam Vada, Dharam Chara.

Key Discussions at Corp-Con 2025

In his remarks, Prof. Rao highlighted the significance of self-reliance, environmental sustainability, and the application of ESG principles, referencing landmark cases such as M C Mehta (1985) and T N Godavarman.

He also underlined the importance of the NALSAR–ICSI collaboration, noting that select papers presented during Corp-Con 2025 would be published.

Speakers at the event provided diverse perspectives:

  • CS P S Rao reflected on his experiences in takeovers, mergers, insolvency, and restructuring, offering insights into evolving ESG challenges in corporate governance.
  • Inderjit Shaw stressed embedding sustainability into everyday practices, ESG curricula, and stakeholder engagement, citing best practices from companies such as Tata, Infosys, and Mahindra.
  • CS Ranjit Pandey underscored ESG as a necessity rather than a choice, distinguishing it from CSR and discussing the institutional and legal frameworks that support it.

Corp-Con 2025 Concludes with Acknowledgements

The conference concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to distinguished speakers, followed by a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof P Sreenivasa Subbha Rao, who acknowledged the contributions of all participants and organizers.
